Lecture - 3 (state of the system and processes)

Any physical condition of the system at any instant is called as state of the system. The state of the system is specified by the properties of the system. If any one of the property changes, the state of the system changes. This change in state is called as process. The Infinite state through which the system passes while moving from initial state to the final state is called process path. The processes can be classified as follows - Reversible and Irreversible process A process is said to be a reversible process if it can be reversed in direction following the same path without leaving any change in the system and surroundings, otherwise the process will be Irreversible. We will have a detailed explanation of reversible and Irreversible process in my upcoming lectures. Quasi Static and non Quasi static process   A process is said to be a Quasi static process if it take place in a very slow manner, otherwise non Quasi static process. First of all we understand Quasi stati

Lecture - 2 ( Thermodynamics equilibrium and properties of system)

Thermodynamic equilibrium   A system is said to be in Thermodynamic Equilibrium if it is in phase, thermal, mechanical and chemical equilibrium at same time. If any one of the equilibrium condition disturb then the system cannot comes under Thermodynamic Equilibrium. Let us understand these four equilibrium. THERMAL EQUILIBRIUM -  The system is said to be in thermal equilibrium if it has equality of temperature with surrounding. For example a dead body is the perfect example of thermal equilibrium with surrounding. Normal human body temperature is approximately 37 degree Celsius whereas temperature of surrounding keeps on changing, let us consider surrounding temperature is 25 degree Celsius. Therefore a living human body is a not under thermal equilibrium with surrounding because metabolism of the body is continuously working or producing heat. The metabolism of a dead body shuts down therefore after sometime dead body comes under same temperature with surrounding. PHASE

It is a branch of science which deals with the energy interactions and its effect on system and surrounding. Energy   Energy can be understood as the ability to cause changes.  System It is a given mass or a region in space (control volume) Where our study is focused. Closed systems are those systems in which energy interaction is there but mass interaction is not there. Open systems are those systems in which both energy and mass interaction with surrounding is there. Isolated systems or doors systems in which neither energy interaction takes place nor mass interaction takes place with surrounding. Surrounding Everything except the system is the surrounding.  That part of the surrounding which is affected directly by the system is called immediate surroundings Boundary It is a real or imaginary surface which separates the system from the surroundings. Boundary can be fixed or movable. Pressure in gasses According to kinetic theory of gases the mol
